Pumpkin poundage proclaimed

College Library staff are celebrating Halloween with pumpkins and poetry. Staff are offering a minimum $75 reward for guessing the weight of two massive pumpkins on display. In addition, the library is hosting a potentially spooky poetry reading.

Today, Oct. 31, students, faculty and staff will read original poetry at a Halloween poetry open mic. Aspiring poets may bring poems on topics of autumn, Halloween/dark side themes, or read selections from famous poets. The reading will be 4 -5 p.m., 1193 College Library, Helen C. White Hall.

Following the poetry reading, the winner of the “Great PumpkinContest” will be announced. Throughout the month of October, students have been guessing the combined weight of the two pumpkins at the front desk.

Security Officer J.D. Rosandick grew the pumpkins and library staff donated money to the “Great Pumpkin Scholarship,” which will be awarded to the winner.

This is the third year of the contest. Last year, more than 140 people submitted guesses.
