Public hearing set on west campus cogeneration facility

March 7, 2003

UW–Madison will hold a public hearing on Thursday, March 13 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. on proposed west campus power plant facility options.

Department of Administration staff will provide a briefing of the three proposed facility options and there will be an opportunity for public comment. Persons interested in learning more about the DOA’s report can review that it online.

The three options analyzed include: a 150-megawatt cogeneration facility owned and operated by Madison Gas and Electric; a 45-megawatt facility owned and operated by the State of Wisconsin and University of Wisconsin; and a heating plant expansion with no electric generating capacity. All of these options would be located at the 600 Block of Walnut Street on the west end of campus at UW–Madison.

The hearing will take the same format used by the Madison City Council for public hearings with each person having three minutes to make a statement. Submissions may also be filed in writing with no length limits.

Room reservations were not finalized on Friday and will be announced on Monday, March 10. For the location of the hearing, interested persons may also check http://www.news.wisc.edu/ Monday afternoon.
