Public forum on the future of nuclear power set for April 12
One year after the disaster at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant, many questions remain about the future of nuclear power.
What can we learn about the contribution of national culture to the response to such disasters? How will media coverage of Fukushima and other developments in nuclear science affect public opinion and debate about nuclear power going forward? What is the role of the energy industry in protecting public safety? What lessons can the U.S. nuclear community draw from the Japanese experience?
As part of its annual Science & the Public Series, the Robert F. and Jean E. Holtz Center for Science and Technology Studies at the University of Wisconsin–Madison has scheduled a public forum that engages these questions.
Entitled “The Future of Nuclear Power in the Wake of Fukushima: Culture, Politics and Policy,” the forum is set for Thursday, April 12 at 7 p.m. in the DeLuca Forum in the Wisconsin Institutes for Discovery, 330 N. Orchard St. It is free and open to the public, and will offer audience members an opportunity to engage in discussion with the panelists on this timely and important topic.
Panelists include experts on nuclear engineering, science and the media, corporate responsibility, and Japanese cultural and environmental history. For more information, click here.
