Public forum on breast cancer

As part of its annual symposium, the Environmental Health Sciences Center at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, in conjunction with the Comprehensive Cancer Center, will offer a free public forum discussing key issues in the fight against breast cancer 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, June 5.

The forum, part of a symposium series in developmental and molecular toxicology, will discuss both the latest research of and treatments for breast cancer. Patrick Remington, a professor of population health sciences, will address risk factors, preventable causes, incidence rates and public health approaches to cancer control. Tara Breslin, a surgical oncologist at UW–Madison, will talk about surgical innovations in breast cancer treatment, prevention and preoperative chemotherapy. There will be time for audience questions.

The forum will be in 2006 Rennebohm Hall (the new School of Pharmacy building), 777 Highland Ave.

On Thursday, June 6, the center will offer a series of sessions discussing research related to mammary development and breast cancer genetics; the following day, sessions will be offered covering environmental agents and prevention, as well as cell signaling, growth factors and the cellular matrix. Registration is required for these sessions.
