PrimateLit now online

PrimateLit, the primary database for searching the literature of primatology, is now available free in Web format.

The database includes over 200,000 citations covering the literature from 1940 to date. PrimateLit is searchable by author, article or journal title, subject, taxonomic name, geographical region, publication date and keyword.

The project is part of a $2.5 million, five-year grant from the National Center for Research Resources to the Wisconsin Regional Primate Research Center Library, which is using the money to boost library staff and resources so that it can more effectively work with the greater primatological research community.

The grant allows the library to work cooperatively with other primate centers to coordinate information services for research and affiliate staff and to promote information sharing.

PrimateLit is supported by National Center for Research Resources, National Institutes of Health. This grant allows free access for all users of the database.

Indexing for the database is provided by the Primate Information Center in Seattle. Database management is handled by the Wisconsin Regional Primate Research Center with the technical assistance of the UW–Madison Library Technology Group.
