Power restored on west campus
A brief power outage April 6 on the west end of campus was caused by a failed component in a Madison Gas & Electric power line at the utility’s Walnut Street substation, university officials say.
More than 40 campus buildings lost power for about 37 minutes starting around 3 p.m. Buildings included many lakeshore residence halls, research facilities and some other campus buildings west of Charter Street.
Emergency generators sustained power at UW Hospital and Clinics, and no patient care was affected by the outage, hospital officials say.
Physical Plant workers checked and reset building controls, ventilated animal quarters in research facilities, and took other necessary steps to recover from the outage, according to physical plant director John Harrod.
University Housing director Paul Evans says the outage did not significantly affect housing or food service operations.
