Physicist, library donor William “Jack” Fry dies
Physicist William F. “Jack” Fry, who served on the University of Wisconsin–Madison faculty from 1952 to 1998, died earlier this week at the age of 89.
Fry, of Madison, was an avid historian and collector of Italian manuscripts. He was also an important contributor to the UW–Madison Libraries, donating more than 40,000 books and documents over the years.
Fry was a man of many interests. He spent four decades in acoustical research involving the violin and became a noted expert.
