Peace Day @ UW to be held Sept. 21
UW-Madison is no stranger to political rallies, war protests and other forms of public assembly. An event at 5:15 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 21, will use Library Mall as a stage for unity, bringing together the university and community, conservatives and liberals, the religious and non-religious, athletes, artists and academics.
Peace Day @ UW was founded to promote participation in the International Day of Peace, an initiative of the United Nations.
Professor of political science Howard Schweber will serve as keynote speaker. Dean of Students Lori Berquam will also attend, as well as representatives of numerous campus organizations. Following a brief introduction by a member of the Peace Day @ UW committee, a moment of silence will honor all who have lost their lives to armed conflict in the world. The ringing of the Music Hall bells will break the silence.
