Open house to showcase UW-Madison mapping sciences
Mapping resources will be the focus of an open house at the University of Wisconsin–Madison’s Science Hall, 550 N. Park St., from noon-4 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 1.
The open house will give students and the public an opportunity to learn about the wealth of mapping-science resources that make UW–Madison one of the nation’s leading centers of geography, cartography and related disciplines.
The free event will showcase the resources of the university’s Department of Geography, including the State Cartographers Office, the Robinson Map Library, the Geography Library, the Cartographic Laboratory, the History of Cartography Project, the Geographic Information Systems Certificate Program and the SoLIM Project, a new technology for soil mapping.
The open house is being held to recognize the 30th anniversary of the State Cartographer’s Office and to show off the geography department’s new office, as well as the Robinson Map Library’s new look and expanded menu of services.
UW–Madison students, staff and faculty, as well as area professionals engaged in the mapping sciences, are especially encouraged to attend the event.
