Observatory Drive traffic detoured
Observatory Drive between Elm Drive and Willow Creek will be closed to traffic on Tuesday, June 30, and Wednesday, July 1, as part of the West Campus Utility Project.
The closure will begin early on Tuesday morning (by 7 a.m.) and the road is expected to be re-opened late Wednesday, providing rain doesn’t delay the utility work.
Arrow boards and signs will help detour motorists. West-bound traffic will have to turn left onto Elm Drive, right on to Linden by the horse barn, then continue past the School of Veterinary Medicine, following Linden to the right where it turns just before Willow Creek, then turn left back on to Observatory Drive. East-bound traffic will follow the same route from the other direction.
According to Peter Heaslett of the university’s Division of Facilities Planning and Management, lane closures and detours will occur again in about three weeks when the replacement of deteriorating steam pipes has been completed.
