Observatory Drive traffic advisory for 8/19/97
Commuters to the UW–Madison campus should be aware there will be no thru traffic on Observatory Drive between Park Street and Charter Street from 7 a.m. to approximately 4 p.m. on Tuesday, August 19; it will be open to local traffic only. A crane will be blocking the roadway near the bend on the hill as it hoists materials to the top of the west end of the Helen C. White Library for a re-roofing project about to begin.
Employees and visitors who park in Lot 9 behind Science Hall will be able to access the lot from Park Street. Those who park in lots 10 and 11 along Bascom Hill will have to enter Observatory Drive from Charter Street.
Beginning with the start of service at 6:20 a.m., campus buses will be re-routed as well. A temporary stop will be located at the south corner of Park and Langdon streets. Buses will travel up Langdon Street to Lake Street, take Lake Street to University Avenue, then head west on University Avenue to Charter Street resuming their regular route at Charter Street and Linden Drive.
Steve Harman, civil engineer for major projects in the university’s Division of Facilities Planning and Management, says its possible that the affected segment of Observatory Drive could be reopened sooner than 4 p.m.
