Observatory drive project to affect campus traffic

June 9, 2004 By

Beginning Monday, June 21, Observatory Drive between Park Street and Charter Street will be closed for reconstruction.

The closure is expected to continue until Monday, July 19, if there are no weather-related or other unanticipated delays.

Access to Bascom Hill parking areas 9, 10 and 11 will be allowed for those university employees who have valid permits for those lots. They may experience short traffic delays due to lane closures and movement of large construction equipment. Emergency vehicles will also be allowed access. Delivery vehicles are encouraged to find alternate routes if possible.

Starting Monday, June 14, campus buses will be rerouted around the construction. On their eastbound route, buses will travel on West Johnson Street to Lake Street, then take Lake to Langdon Street, Langdon to Park Street, and Park to University Avenue. They will then head west on University to Babcock Drive and then resume their normal route.

Several regular campus bus stops will not be served during the construction period. Temporary stops will be located along the detour. A map of the detour, including the locations of the temporary stops, is available on the buses or online at Madison Metro’s Web site, they also have specific information on the Route 80 detour.
