Observatory Dr. closures begin Nov. 9
Due to the Bascom Hall Fire Protection and Water Project currently in progress, there will be no thru traffic over Bascom Hill (between Park St. and Charter St.) for approximately one month.
Beginning Monday, Observatory Drive will be closed from Elizabeth Waters Hall to the west end of Bascom Hall’s Lot 11. The closure will include the intersection of Observatory Drive and Charter Street. That phase of the construction is expected to take about two weeks, weather permitting. During that time, access to Lot 11 will be from Park Street only. Lot 25 at Elizabeth Waters Hall will be closed, including the handicapped stalls. Temporary handicapped stalls will be provided at the overlook just west of Elizabeth Waters Hall.
On or about Monday, Nov. 23, Observatory Drive from Lot 11 to the front of Bascom Hall will be closed for approximately two weeks; access to Lot 11 will be from Charter Street only.
Campus buses will be rerouted for the duration of the construction. From Union South, buses will use Johnson Street east to Lake Street, Lake to Langdon Street, stop in front of the Memorial Union, turn left onto Park Street, take Park to University Avenue, University to Charter Street, and Charter to Linden Drive, where they’ll resume their regular route.
The underground construction project will result in a greater supply of water to several buildings for both fire protection and general use.
