November 4, 2003

A nationally recognized advocate for building supportive practice environments for nurses has joined UW Hospital and Clinics as senior vice president for patient care services and chief nursing officer.

Maureen P. McCausland, who joined the hospital Nov. 1, was chief nursing executive for the University of Pennsylvania Health System and associate dean for nursing practice at Penn School of Nursing.

McCausland is an expert in and advocate for designing professional workplaces that attract and retain a highly educated nurse work force. She was a member of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing Task Force on Hallmarks of the Professional Practice Setting.

McCausland’s credentials include a doctorate of science in nursing from Boston University. She will have an appointment in the School of Nursing to enhance collaboration between faculty and staff, and to better integrate nursing education into the UW Hospital experience.
