Nominations sought for Virginia Hart Award

February 15, 2005 By Dennis Chaptman

Nominations are being sought for a prestigious award that recognizes the contributions and achievements of women in Wisconsin state government.

The Virginia Hart Special Recognition Award is administered by the Robert M. La Follette School of Public Affairs and Wisconsin Women in Government.

Virginia Hart was Wisconsin’s first woman cabinet secretary, and friends and colleagues established a fund for the annual award after her retirement in 1983. The award aims to recognize the unsung heroines of state service – women whose contributions to clients, co-workers or the public may not be highly visible, but are substantial.

Nominations may be made by anyone, and are being accepted through April 6. Nominees can be in classified or unclassified service, and from any part of the state. Limited-term employees and employees of the Legislature and university are not eligible.

The winner of this year’s award, who will also receive $250, will be honored at the annual meeting of Wisconsin Women in Government in Madison this spring.

To obtain a nomination form, visit the Hart Award Web page. For more information, contact Terry Shelton in the La Follette School at (608) 262-3038 or shelton@lafollete.wisc.edu.
