New program enhances job searches

October 9, 2001

Under a pilot program with the Chronicle for Higher Education, prospective faculty and staff who are considering UW–Madison for their next career move can learn more specifics about the campus by visiting the Chronicle’s Web site.

As part of a new Advertiser Profile program, any open UW–Madison positions posted at http://chronicle.com/ will include a link to more information about the university.

Visitors can also link directly to the section from the home page, without calling up a specific job listing, if they are researching the university as a potential employer. The profile includes information of specific interest to prospective employees, such size, history and academic programs, as well as links to benefits programs and community information.

Advertiser Profile is a component of the Chronicle’s online Career Network, the world’s largest job marketplace in both print and online for people with advanced degrees, including faculty, academic officers, business officers, senior administrators and information-technology administrators at colleges and universities in the United States and around the world. Eighty percent of the Chronicle’s 5 million page views per month are on the Career Network. The site has 73,000 registered subscribers.

UW–Madison’s profile will be available for six months under a pilot program coordinated by University Communications in the hope of increasing the pool of qualified job applications for faculty and administrative positions.

“The Chronicle’s robust Web site gives us yet another opportunity to broadcast the strengths of UW–Madison,” says Patrick Strickler, University Communications director. “We’re able to provide more information in this online listing than a standard print ad, positioning the university as a premiere teaching and research university to an audience of highly skilled faculty and staff.”

The Chronicle staff will add a link to UW–Madison’s profile when a department places an online job listing. Job openings in the printed version of the Chronicle will include a URL for the profile.

Departments can save money when they place job listings because they no longer need to include a general description of the university. For more information, call Tricia Nolan, University Communications, 265-9005.
