New campus accounting system to go online

April 25, 2002

Accounting Services wants to be sure that you have WISDM.

WISDM stands for “Wisconsin Data Mart,’ which is a Web-based financial reporting system. For many on campus, WISDM is the first tangible manifestation of the Shared Financial System (or SFS), the new computerized accounting system.

WISDM, developed at the Division of Information Technology, is used for reporting financial information from the SFS database. Starting in fiscal Year 2003, UW–Madison will be getting WISDM in a big way.

What will this mean? First, Accounting Services will no longer print and distribute the Accounting Control Ledger Statements (frequently referred to as the ACLS). WISDM will provide the same information, electronically, practically at real time.

Second, the 3270 mainframe system will soon be a memory for many campus users. WISDM was designed to replace the 3270 reporting transactions INQM and GENT, and at the end of fiscal 2002, these transactions will instead be done using the Web-based reporting system.

An accounting Services team is coordinating the implementation of SFS at UW–Madison. Its Web site provides information on what the Shared Financial System is and how WISDM works, and offers a training demonstration of the WISDM system.
