My UW to get total makeover
My UW–Madison is evolving. From a redesigned user interface to underlying structure improvements, the new My UW–Madison will provide an information resource adapted to campus needs and flexible enough to provide even more services as those needs change.
The upgrade to the campus Web portal began with the purchase of uPortal software — a new framework for producing a campus portal that enables all the applications in My UW to work together. Since its launch in 2001, My UW–Madison has run on Epicentric software. New requirements for integration and ease of use have prompted the switch to uPortal, an open-source product that is gaining popularity in higher education. Plans call to implement the new portal in August 2005.
As with initial development of My UW–Madison, the portal upgrade is being guided by teams of campus users, service providers, and technical staff. For regular reports on the status of My UW–Madison development, see the articles in the right column under My UW News at http://www.doit.wisc.edu/myuw/
