GRANTS
UW–Madison’s European Union Center received a renewal grant from the European Commission for 300,000 euros (approx. $365,000) to improve the nascent UW–Madison European Union Center of Excellence. The grant will allow the center to expand and strengthen its programming and research for three years, focusing on research on outreach.
APPOINTED
Tess Arenas, former assistant vice president for the UW System, has been appointed to the new position of director of service learning in the College of Letters and Science. She will serve as a link between L&S academic programs and the UW’s Morgridge Center for Public Service.
The School of Human Ecology recently presented its annual Excellence in Outreach Awards, which include $500 funding for professional development. Ann Hoyt, professor of consumer science, received a lifetime award. Julie Poehlmann and Linda Roberts, professors in the Department of Human Development and Family Studies, also received outreach awards.
Several journals edited by professors in La Follette School of Public Affairs have increased their ISI Web of Science rank. Governance, an academic journal co-edited by Graham Wilson, has been named first among 26 journals in the field of public administration for 2004. The Journal of Public Administration Research and Theory, edited by Carolyn Heinrich, moved up seven places in the ISI Web of Science rankings between 2003 and 2004, more than doubling its impact factor to 0.872. The Journal of International Economics, co-edited by Charles Engel, ranked 19th in number of citations and 24th in impact factors.
