Appointed
Three UW–Madison staff were appointed to serve on committees for the Central Association of College and University Business Officers, which encourages professional and personal development for business and financial managers in higher education. Paul Jelle, assistant dean in the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences, was appointed vice chair of the Higher Education Accounting Workshop. Frank Kooistra, associate dean for administration in the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences, was reappointed to the Higher Education Accounting Workshop Committee of the Central Association of College and University Business Officers. Jan Richardson, associate director of Accounting Services, was appointed chair of the Current Issues Workshop Committee of the Central Association of College and University Business Officers.
Hnored
Brian White, UW football offensive coordinator and running backs coach, has been named NCAA Division I-A Assistant Coach of the Year by the American Football Coaches Association. The award recognizes assistant coaches who excel in community service, commitment to the student-athlete, on-field coaching success and professional organization involvement.
Published
Jan Vansina, professor of history, has recently published two books. “How Societies are Born: Governance in West Central Africa before 1600,” (University of Virginia Press, 2004) relates how large-scale societies first coalesced from the small foraging communities that had roamed West Central Africa. “Antecedents to Modern Rwanda: The Nyiginya Kingdom,” (University of Wisconsin Press, 2004) investigates Rwanda’s pre-colonial past and a demystification of the colonial historiography of Rwanda.
