Mifflin Street Block Party information from the Dean of Students

April 26, 2005

Happy spring from the Office of the Dean of Students! While you’re enjoying the good weather and the closing weeks of the semester, I would like to ask you to help us ensure that this year’s Mifflin Street Block Party is safe for everyone by keeping in mind the following:

  • Ensure that you and your friends do not overconsume alcohol or other drugs.
  • Look out for your friends and help them stay out of trouble.
  • Cooperate with law enforcement officials and members of the Dean of Students staff who will be patrolling Mifflin Street.
  • Be careful on balconies and porches. If you have a sense that a porch is overcrowded, move back into the house and urge other people to do so as well.
  • Use extreme care near the ledges, as falls do happen, often resulting in serious injury.
  • Lastly, keep in mind that you have both rights and responsibilities as a Madison resident and a UW–Madison student.

Please remember that students engaging in criminal behavior that impacts other members of the university community — on or off campus — can face sanctions that may affect your student status at UW–Madison.

Have fun during these final weeks of the semester, but remember to be smart and take care of yourself and your friends!
