Meet Your Reps Night is Wednesday
The Associated Students of Madison, in cooperation with the UW–Madison Chancellor’s Office, will host the first “Meet your Representatives Night.”
The event will be held from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 21, in Tripp Commons of the Memorial Union.
Seven area politicians will be in attendance to meet with students and answer questions. They include Madison Mayor Dave Cieslewicz; State Sens. Fred Risser and Jon Erpenbach; State Reps. Spencer Black and Mark Pocan; and City Alders Austin King and Mike Verveer.
“UW students, amidst the daily hustle-bustle of college life, often forget that political leaders are working hard to give them the rights that they enjoy,” says Chris Tatarowicz, a UW–Madison senior who is coordinating the event. “We hope that this event will serve as a reminder of that fact.”
“We were trying to include political actors from every aspect of Madison, and we did a fairly good job,” adds Erin Johnson, chair of ASM’s Legislative Affairs Committee. “These politicians should be able to provide the students with an excellent view of area politics.”
ASM hopes that this event will be the first in a series of “Meet your Representatives Nights” to take place each year.
“We’re happy to support ASM’s efforts to put on this event,” says Kristi Thorson, assistant director of State Relations at UW–Madison. “We believe that politically-engaged students go on to make great Wisconsin citizens.”
