Madison police seek info on Mifflin Street robbery

The Madison Police Department is seeking information about a robbery of four UW–Madison students during the early morning hours of Wednesday, Nov. 3 
in the 500 block of West Mifflin Street.

According Madison police, around 12:23 a.m. residents were sitting on the front porch of their off-campus house when they were approached by two suspects, one of whom displayed a handgun and directed them inside.

Once inside, one suspect held the residents at gunpoint while the other gathered money, cell phones, and several electronic items. One resident was punched and another stomped on during the robbery.

MPD describes the first suspect as a black male, 20-25 years old, 5’8″ to 5’9″, 160-170 pounds, with a high-pitched voice, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, dark jeans, black ski mask, black tennis shoes armed with a silver handgun.

The second suspect is described as a black male, 20 years old, 5’10” to 6′, 175-180 pounds with a lighter complexion, thin beard, wearing a gray hoodie, dark jeans, and dark shoes.

In general, MPD and UWPD are suggesting the following ways to protect your belongings and yourself off-campus:

— Keep your doors and windows locked, even when home.
— Keep valuables stored out of plain sight.
— Be wary of people who don’t appear to belong in the area.
— Don’t buzz people you don’t know into your building.
— Never prop open an exterior building door.
— Report any safety concerns (non-working hallway or outside lights, locks, etc.) to your property owner or manager immediately.
— Report any crime or suspicion of a crime at once. If police are contacted within the first five minutes, police have a better chance of finding a suspect.
