Ladson-Billings honored as AERA’s 2011 Brown Lecturer
Leaders of the American Educational Research Association (AERA) have honored Gloria Ladson-Billings, a professor in the University of Wisconsin–Madison’s Department of Curriculum and Instruction, by selecting her to give the eighth annual Brown Lecture in Education.
The American Educational Research Association is the nation’s preeminent educational research organization.
Her lecture, “Through a Glass Darkly: The Persistence of Race in Education Research,” will take place at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 27, at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in Washington, D.C.
Ladson-Billings, the Kellner Family Professor in Urban Education and H.I. Romnes Fellow, studies elementary, multicultural and social studies education.

The increasingly popular Brown Lecture in Education was established to convey the significance of education research and related social sciences to understanding and addressing issues of equity and equality in education.
