La Follette Series Explores Land Use Policy
The Robert M. La Follette Institute of Public Affairs is sponsoring a series of sessions on land use planning — issues that challenge policy makers at all levels of government.
The series is designed for employees of city, county, state and federal offices, as well as citizens outside government. Each session will include a presentation from a UW–Madison faculty member and time for discussion among participants.
The topics to be discussed include:
Feb. 2: “Land Use Planning: Why Do We Disagree (on the Specifics) When We Agree (on the Idea)?” by Professor Harvey Jacob, Urban and Regional Planning
Feb. 9: “Property Rights and Regulations: Who Owns the Land?” by Professor Dan Bromley, Agricultural and Applied Economics
Feb. 23: “Historical Perspectives on Land Use” by Professor William Cronon, History
March 2: “Why Should We Consider Gender Issues in Land Use Planning?” by Professor Kami Pothukuchi, Urban and Regional Planning
March 10: “Intergovernmental Workings and Considerations in Use Policy Making” by Professor Donald Kettl, La Follette Institute and Political Science
All sessions will be held from noon-1 p.m., Room 260, Madison Municipal Building, 215 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. Bring a lunch; no reservation required.
