‘Jazzin’’ raises funds for campus child care

In celebration of the 100 campus child care workers who support the families of University of Wisconsin–Madison students, faculty and staff, the 14th annual Jazzin’ Fundraiser will kick off with prizes and music Thursday, June 2, in Tripp Commons at the Memorial Union.

The event, which takes place between 5-8 p.m., is the major fundraiser for campus child care, with more than 60 community businesses offering gift certificates and merchandise for the raffle and silent auction.

Singer Jan Wheaton, who has been called Madison’s first lady of jazz, will also be performing with her quartet.

“After 13 years, it is getting bigger and better each year,” says Connie Wilson of the Office of Child Care and Family Resources (OCCFR), which established the fundraiser.

The OCCFR promotes early education and family support system on and around campus, coordinating with nine affiliated centers to provide care for children from 6 weeks to 12 years of age. The various programs are unique in size and scope, including part-day parental co-ops and a center for mildly ill children.

Tickets are $30, and more than 150 auction packages and prizes will be given away. Goodies are posted on the OCCFR website.

“This is an event that brings together the campus community and the community at large to show support for children, families and the staff who work in the campus child care centers,” Wilson says.
