Homecoming theme is ‘Badger Luau’

Colorful paper leis will be the must-have accessory when the university celebrates its 2001 Homecoming, “Badger Luau,” later this month. Festivities begin with a campus cleanup Friday, Oct. 19, and end with the Wisconsin-Michigan State game Saturday, Oct. 27.

The annual Charity Run/Walk is Sunday, Oct. 21. Registration: $12 through Friday, Oct. 12, or $15 on event day beginning at 10 a.m., Library Mall. The walk/run starts in front of the Memorial Union, noon.

Also Sunday, Oct. 21, a “Celebration of Cultures” will be held on Library Mall, 1-4 p.m., with music and dance from around the world.

The fourth annual Homecoming Golf Outing at University Ridge is Friday, Oct. 26. Registration fee: $125, or $450 per foursome. Information: 265-2731, golfouting@uwalumni.com.

Bring your friends and family to the big Homecoming parade and fireworks on Friday, Oct. 26, at 6 p.m. This year’s parade grand marshal is Jacquelyn Mitchard, author of the number one New York Times best-seller “The Deep End of the Ocean” and syndicated columnist of “The Rest of Us.”

The parade moves down State Street from Gilman to Lake Street, then right on Lake to Langdon Street. The awards ceremony and fireworks will take place at the Union Terrace following the parade.

A Homecoming Blood Drive runs through Oct. 19 at Youngblood, 302 Union South, Thursdays and Fridays, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Appointments: 227-1357.
