Hildebrand named special assistant to UW-Madison vice chancellor
Scott Hildebrand, senior executive assistant to the chancellor at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, has been chosen as special assistant to Darrell Bazzell, vice chancellor for administration at the University of Wisconsin–Madison.
“Scott has an impressive track record of advocating for higher education, along with a thorough knowledge of the challenges and opportunities we confront as a university,” says Bazzell. “He’s a team player and a skilled communicator who is respected for his solid judgment.”
Hildebrand, a former journalist, joined UW-Green Bay in 2001 as director of marketing and media relations. There, he facilitated the development of a campuswide image-building plan, prepared university communications and served as university spokesperson. In 2007, he moved to the chancellor’s office as senior executive assistant, coordinating the chancellor’s initiatives and activities, and serving as a liaison to community and statewide groups.
“This is a great opportunity for me to serve at an outstanding public research university. I look forward to working under Vice Chancellor Bazzell’s leadership in service to the entire UW–Madison community,” says Hildebrand, who plans to start work at UW–Madison in early June.
In his new role, Hildebrand will manage the flow of issues and projects for the office, coordinate planning and review teams, and serve as a liaison with internal and external offices and groups.
Prior to joining UW-Green Bay, Hildebrand worked as a journalist for 23 years at the Green Bay Press-Gazette. From 1989 to 2001, he served as the newspaper’s Madison bureau chief, covering the Legislature, governor, state agencies and the UW System.
Hildebrand earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism at UW–Madison’s School of Journalism and Mass Communication in 1978.
Bazzell’s office oversees the university’s budget, business services, facilities planning and management, human resources, University Police, University Health Services, University Housing, Recreational Sports and the Wisconsin Union.
