Greenfield Summer Institute features Jewish memory and nostalgia

July 2, 2012

The Greenfield Summer Institute, sponsored by the George L. Mosse/Laurence A. Weinstein Center for Jewish Studies, is offering a weeklong event of learning and fun at the 13th Annual Greenfield Summer Institute Jewish Memory and Nostalgia.

The event is open to those looking to study and share in Jewish history and culture, organizers say.

The event will be held Sunday, July 8, at the Fluno Center, 601 University Ave., and Monday, July 9 through Thursday, July 12, at Grainger Hall, 975 University Ave. The registration fee is $185; space is limited, so early registration is highly recommended.

The fee covers classes and selected refreshments. To register online, visit

To kick off the festivities, Michael Bernard-Donals, director of the Mosse/Laurence A. Weinstein Center for Jewish Studies, will welcome participants at a dinner on Sunday, July 8, at 6 p.m. Throughout the remainder of the week, talks will be given by a multitude of experts on topics regarding Jewish history, culture and religion. The event will conclude Thursday, July 12, with a 10:45 a.m. closing roundtable discussion, featuring Bernard-Donals and Simone Schweber, professor of education and Jewish studies.
