Governance groups support classified contracts

March 11, 2003

The UW–Madison Faculty Senate and Academic Staff Assembly have each passed resolutions urging approval of contracts for represented employees.

Both resolutions praise represented classified staff for their work on campus and their role as partners in fulfilling the university’s mission, and call on the state to approve the contracts negotiated by the unions and the Department of Employment Relations. The senate version of the resolution passed at its March 3 meeting, while the assembly version passed March 10.

The senate also approved an additional motion directing the University Committee, the executive committee of the senate, to investigate material ways faculty members can demonstrate their solidarity with represented staff. The committee is to report its findings at the senate’s April 7 meeting.
