George Will to speak Sept. 24
George F. Will, Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist and television news analyst, will speak at UW–Madison on Thursday, Sept. 24 at 5 p.m.
The speech, titled “American Public Policy,” will be given in the Memorial Union Theater. Admission is free to a first-come, first served audience, and the doors open at 4:30 p.m.
George Will’s appearance is sponsored by the College of Letters and Science at UW–Madison.
Will’s newspaper column has been syndicated by the Washington Post since 1974 and today appears twice weekly in nearly 500 newspapers in the United States and Europe. He has been a regular contributing editor of Newsweek Magazine since 1976. In 1981, he became a founding member of the ABC-TV panel show, “This Week with Sam Donaldson and Cokie Roberts.”
Six collections of Will’s columns have been published; the latest is last year’s “The Woven Figure: Conservatism and America’s Fabric.” He has written three books of political theory and two books on baseball, including “Bunts: Curt Flood, Camden Yards, Pete Rose and Other Reflections on Baseball,” published last spring.
Will was born in Champaign, Ill., and educated at Trinity College, Oxford University and Princeton University, where he earned his doctorate. He has taught political philosophy at Michigan State University, the University of Toronto and Harvard.
He served on the staff of U. S. Sen. Gordon Alcott (R-Colorado) from 1970 to 1972 and was Washington editor of National Review magazine for the next three years.
