Freedom Ride 2001
UW–Madison students are exploring the historical meanings of the Civil Rights Movement May 29-June 14 in a traveling class convening at locations throughout the South.
With their bus as a rolling classroom, UW–Madison professors Tim Tyson, Craig Werner and Steve Kantrowitz will use music, film, literature and history to help students understand the themes that have shaped democratic possibility over the past century, including race, gender, social class, grassroots community organizing and non-violent direct action.
To learn more about the experience, read The Capital Times’ daily coverage posted on the newspaper’s Freedom Ride 2001 Web site.
