GRANTS

UW-Madison Non-Represented Classified Staff Professional Development Grants
All permanent UW–Madison non-represented classified staff with 50 percent appointments or more can compete for 2004-2005 professional development grants for non-represented classified staff for conferences, training or other professional development activities that occur between January 1, 2005, and June 30, 2005. Proposals should focus on training and/or retraining to improve the non-represented classified staff member’s effectiveness.

Sponsored and administered by the Council for Non-Represented Classified Staff, the program’s main objectives are individual professional development, improved program quality, improved institutional effectiveness and design for diversity.

Half of the funding for individual projects comes from the staff member’s department. The Professional Development Committee of the Council for Non-Represented Classified Staff administers the review process.

Applications must be submitted to department chairs or directors for approval and forwarded to the dean/director’s office in sufficient time to send them to Classified Human Resources, Room 230, Peterson Building by Oct. 15.

WAGE Grants Available
The Center for World Affairs and the Global Economy invites all UW–Madison faculty to apply for a multiyear collaborative grant to increase understanding of globalization and the international economy. WAGE will award up to $125,000 to each of three separate collaboratives, with the awards spread over a three-year period. Please see http://www.wisc.edu/wage for the detailed call for proposals.

Jonathan Zeitlin, WAGE director, and Alison Alter, WAGE associate director, will hold an informational session on Friday, Sept. 24, from 12-1 p.m. in 36 Ingraham to answer initial questions related to this call for proposals. All interested faculty are invited to attend and take advantage of this opportunity to connect with other faculty working on questions of globalization and the international economy. Michael and Emily Lapinski Fund for Polish Studies Started
The Department of Slavic Languages and Literature received $1,190,000 to create the Michael and Emily Lapinski Fund for Polish Studies. This fund will support scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students in the Polish program. Application procedures will be announced this fall.
