Smoke-Free Policy
The UW–Madison smoke-free policy was reviewed and amended in 1995 to the following:
- Effective July 1, 1995, all buildings and vehicles, regardless of location, that are owned or leased by UW–Madison, will be entirely smoke free. Except as noted below, the smoke-free policy will apply to all indoor air space including individual faculty and administrative offices.
- Smoking will not be permitted near exits and entrances of buildings, except at a reasonable distance (25 feet or more) or unless otherwise designated.
- All indoor air space of university-owned and leased athletic facilities will be smoke free.
- Memorial Union will be entirely smoke free. Union South will be smoke free with the exception of designated hotel rooms.
- University residence halls will be entirely smoke free.
- University Hospital and Clinics will be entirely smoke free.
The office of the Vice Chancellor for Administration, room 100 Bascom, 262-9943, has been designated as a clearinghouse for complaints and other smoking policy matters.
Student Mentors Needed
American students interested in learning about other cultures and introducing international students to life in America can volunteer to be bridge peer mentors. Deadline to apply is Friday, April 25. Depression Study Subjects Needed
The UW Psychiatry Clinical Trials Unit is recruiting subjects for an antidepressant medication research study for people who are experiencing major depression and who are taking antidepressant medication but are still feeling depressed. Subjects will continue taking their current medication while taking study medication. Participants get paid $20 for each completed visit.
