Kemper K. Knapp Bequest Committee Call for Proposals

Creative Arts Awards Call for Applications and Nominations
The Arts Institute announces it is accepting applications and nominations for several awards. The deadline to apply is Monday, Nov. 4.
- Faculty Research: Arts Institute Creative Arts Award and the Emily Mead Baldwin-Bascom Professorship in the Creative Arts.
- Faculty and Staff Outreach: Gerald A. Bartell Award in the Arts
- Graduate Student Achievement: David and Edith Sinaiko Frank Graduate Fellowship for a Woman in the Arts; and Lyman S.V. Judson and Ellen Mackechnie Judson Student Award in the Creative Arts.

Interdisciplinary Arts Residency Program Call for Nominations
The Arts Institute is accepting nominations for the Interdisciplinary Arts Residency Program for residencies beginning in 2003-04 and after. Application deadline is Monday, Nov. 4. Funded by the Cluster Hires Initiative, the program enables the Arts Institute to support a series of extended residencies each year for the benefit of all arts departments and programs of the university. Arts departments bring in visitors for relatively short periods with support from the Anonymous Fund, the Brittingham Trust, and other sources. The main purpose of such residencies is to enrich individual arts programs. Complementing current practices, the Arts Institute program is interdisciplinary in nature and has the added attraction of enabling innovative artists to work with students on more ambitious projects, of providing course credit, and of strengthening programmatic ties among departments. Academic Staff Professional Development Grant Program
The Academic Staff Professional Development Grant program offers a second 2002-03 grant competition. Staff who hold at least a 50 percent appointment are eligible to compete for academic staff professional development grant funds for projects that begin on or after Jan. 1 and end before June 30. Applications must be submitted to department chairs or directors by Friday, Oct. 18, and to the dean or director by Friday, Oct. 25. Call for Preproposals: Ira and Ineva Reilly Baldwin Wisconsin Idea Endowment
The Provost’s Office is soliciting proposals from faculty, staff and students for the Ira and Ineva Reilly Baldwin Wisconsin Idea Endowment. See http://www.provost.wisc.edu/baldwin/ for guidelines, cover page, budget submission form and directions. Preproposals are due to dean’s office by Friday, Oct. 4, with 10 signed copies due in the Provost’s Office by Friday, Oct. 11. Notification of those who will be encouraged to submit full proposals will be made by Monday, Oct. 28. Full proposals are due to dean’s office by Monday, Dec. 2, with 10 signed copies due in the Provost’s Office by Friday, Dec. 6. Proposals from individual students or student organizations must have a sponsoring university department or unit. Students interested in applying and who do not have a sponsoring department or unit should contact Mary Rouse, director of the Morgridge Center for Public Service, 262-0787/263-2432 or mkrouse@wisc.edu. Maximum funding for any project is $100,000, and projects may last up to three years. Both pre- and full proposals must include a detailed budget. Change in Alternative Testing Procedure for Students with Disabilities
The Testing and Evaluation Office has developed a new Web-based procedure for requesting assistance through its office with proctoring exams for students with disabilities. This change only applies to exams administered by the Testing and Evaluation Office. This change does not affect exams administered by the faculty or department, which is about 80 percent of all course exams. Formerly, faculty who were unable to proctor students themselves because they could not provide specialized equipment or other accommodations in the department were asked to sign a four-ply form to request T&E’s assistance. This form will no longer be used. Students will continue to first meet with faculty to discuss exam accommodation requests. Under the new procedure, if faculty cannot provide specialized accommodations in the department, the student will complete T&E’s Web-based request form. Student requests are then forwarded to the faculty via e-mail for final approval. Faculty must approve the request at least five days before the exam date for T&E to proctor the exam.
