Finley named Lake Country Badger of the Year, Richter to speak

February 24, 2004

On March 9, UW–Madison alumnus Daniel M. Finley will receive the new Badger of the Year award at the UW Alumni Club of Lake Country‘s Founders’ Day, which will feature an appearance by UW–Madison Director of Athletics Pat Richter.

The Wisconsin Alumni Association (WAA) established the Badger of the Year award in 2004 to honor UW–Madison alumni who have made a difference in their communities.

As Waukesha County’s first chief executive officer, Finley administers 1,300 employees and an annual budget exceeding $195 million. Prior to his current position, Finley served as chair of the Waukesha County Board of Supervisors for three years. He earned a bachelor of arts degree in economics from UW–Madison in 1980.

The UW Alumni Club of Lake Country Founders’ Day celebration will start at 5:30 p.m. on March 9 at the Radisson Hotel Pewaukee, located at N14 W24140 Tower Place, Pewaukee. Richter, who is retiring this year, will speak at the event. During his 15 years at the university, Richter has earned a reputation for academic excellence while guiding Badger athletic teams to three national championships, 50 Big Ten championships and nine football bowl games.

Founders’ Day 2004 is presented by the Wisconsin Alumni Association, a nonprofit organization, in cooperation with the University of Wisconsin Foundation in cities nationwide. This event brings the latest in UW research to alumni in their hometowns, raises funds for student scholarships and celebrates the founding of the university.

Proceeds from Founders’ Day will benefit the UW Alumni Club of Lake Country’s scholarship fund – this year, the club has raised nearly $100,000 to support local students. All who are interested are invited to attend.
