Fennema Elected To National Academy of Education
UW–Madison Professor Elizabeth Fennema has been elected to the prestigious National Academy of Education.
Fennema holds emeritus professorships in curriculum and instruction and in women’s studies, and for many years held a research post at the Wisconsin Center for Education Research.
Membership in the National Academy of Educaiton is limited to 125 people whose accomplishments in the field of education are outstanding. Other members include Andrew Porter, UW–Madison professor of education and WCER director; Marshall Smith, deputy acting secretary of the U.S. Department of Education and former UW–Madison professor of education; Donna Shalala, U.S. secretary of health and human services and former UW–Madison chancellor; and Carl Kaestle, former UW–Madison professor of education.
Among the many books Fennema has written or edited are Mathematics Teachers in Transition, New Directions for Equity in Mathematics Education and Mathematics and Gender.
