Feingold, Wigand, Utami cancel visits

November 10, 2000

Several speakers have canceled plans to visit the university next week.

  • Jeffery Wigand, the scientist who blew the whistle on the tobacco industry, will be unable to appear at the Wisconsin Union Theater this Tuesday, Nov. 15. Wigand, portrayed in the film “The Insider,” was to be the first of this year’s Distinguished Lecture Series sponsored by the Wisconsin Union Directorate. He canceled due to a scheduling conflict. Wigand may be able to appear at some point during spring semester.
  • Because Congress will be in session, Sen. Russ Feingold has had to cancel his talk on Africa Thursday, Nov. 16, co-sponsored by the International Institute and the Fulbright Association’s Wisconsin Chapter. The event will be rescheduled.
  • Indonesian author Ayu Utami, scheduled to speak on Friday, Nov. 17, has canceled because of illness. No additional information is available.
