Engineering department announces name change

For some, industrial engineering calls to mind factories and smokestacks, time study, plant layout and work measurement, says Harry Steudel, Emerson Electric Professor in Total Quality and chair of the Department of Industrial Engineering.

To respond to this antiquated perception of its field, the Department of Industrial Engineering has changed its name to the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering, abbreviated ISyE. It will continue to offer the industrial engineering degree.
