Egyptian scholar to visit
Egyptian land rights and the effects of Egypt’s agricultural policy on rural people will be the topic of a seminar conducted by visiting Egyptian researcher Ashraf Ahmed Hussein Wednesday, Oct. 4, at noon in 206 Ingraham.
For five years, Hussein has been studying women and children’s issues and the outcomes of structural adjustment in Egypt. He has been researching his dissertation through UW–Madison’s Land Tenure Center and its publication collection on country-specific land tenure issues.
The session, “The Egyptian Village Under a New Land Tenure Policy,” will include discussion about Hussein’s research.
Hussein, who focuses on ethnography and social anthropology in his studies at the University of Aarhus in Denmark, has worked with the Land Center for Human Rights, the Arab Research Center and other nongovernmental organizations. He received his master’s degree in development studies from Leeds University in England.
