Educators create Sept. 11 college fund

October 15, 2001

UW–Madison is asking the campus community to consider supporting an effort to provide educational opportunities to those who lost parents or other family members in last month’s terrorist attacks.

In a letter to the university, American Council on Education president and former UW–Madison chancellor David Ward requests support for the Sept. 11 College Fund. The fund will provide need-based tuition assistance to dependents and survivors of the attacks.

“Many in the campus community are looking for ways to contribute to the recovery effort in this country,” Provost Peter Spear says. “We want our faculty, staff and students to know about this unique opportunity to help rebuild lives.”

All funds raised will be used for scholarships. Contributions are tax deductable.

For information or to donate, call (877) 862-0136. Donors may also mail checks to Citizen’s Scholarship Foundation of America, 1505 Riverview Road, P.O. Box 297, St. Peter, MN 56082.
