Educator explores new ways to teach mathematics

November 1, 2005

A free, public address by Uri Treisman, professor of mathematics at the University of Texas at Austin, will highlight the School of Education’s celebration of American Education Week, Nov. 13-19.

Treisman will discuss “Powerful New Ways to Teach Math” at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 17, in 204 Educational Sciences. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. No tickets are required.

Named a MacArthur Fellow in 1992, Treisman has long been an advocate for equity and excellence in education. In his presentation, he’ll use new data to identify what he believes are the most promising strategies for closing the achievement gap and improving math education for all K-12 students.

The School of Education sponsors a variety of activities during American Education Week, a nationwide celebration of K-12 schools. For a calendar of events, visit http://www.education.wisc.edu or call 265-7875.
