Dance students perform in Detroit
For most students on campus, March means spring break. To a core group of students at the UW Dance Program, it means dancing in Detroit over spring break and then, returning to campus to perform in the annual spring student choreography concert March 30-April 1.
Next week, 12 students head to the Motor City to participate in the American College Dance Festival Association (ACDFA) Great Lakes Region Festival. Works by professor Li Chiao-Ping, student Nora Stephens and assistant professor Jin-Wen Yu were chosen for performance this year.
Two pieces, by Stephens and Yu, will be adjudicated along with works from other colleges and universities throughout the region. Winners will be invited to perform at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. in May. Li’s work will be performed in the festival’s Informal Concert.
Students making the trip to Detroit include Tamra Bisbee (McFarland, Wis.); Mary Darcy (Stillwater, Olka.); Rebecca Davis (Colfax, Wis.); Lori Dillon (Milwaukee, Wis.); Liza Domnitz (Shorewood, Wis.); Erin Goldman (Arlington Heights, Ill.); Lisa Levy (Highland Park, Ill.); Kelly Kivland (Crystal Lake, Ill.); A.J. Niehaus (Hudson, Wis.), Tori Rogoski (Stevens Point, Wis.); Elena Schmeeckle (Stevens Point); and Nora Stephens (Brookline, Mass.).
