Cuban pianist to play Music Hall

Internationally acclaimed Cuban pianist Omar Sosa, who has just been nominated for the Latin Grammy in the jazz category, will be at Music Hall Thursday, Sept. 19, as part of the kick-off for the Sin Fronteras project focused on the Caribbean. The project is coordinated by the Latin American, Caribbean and Iberian Studies Program, and the Madison Children’s Museum.

Sosa plays a fusion of Latin jazz, hip-hop and various world music. Featured in the Octet at the Music Hall will be Martha Galarraga (from Cuba) on Yoruba vocals; Gustavo Ovalles (from Venezuela) on percussion; Yassir Chadly (from Morocco) on Arabic vocals; Eric Crystal (San Francisco) on saxophones; Elliot Kavee (New York) on drums; Geoff Brennan (Chicago) on acoustic bass; and hip-hop lyricist/rapper Brutha Los (Oakland). Also on the program is acclaimed Brazilian singer/ songwriter, Tico da Costa.
