Construction affects Camp Randall parking
Construction of an upgraded underground utility distribution system for Camp Randall Stadium will limit access to parking as well as change pedestrian and bicycle traffic in the area for the next several months.
Those attending Badger football games and other events at the Field House and Camp Randall this fall and early winter may be affected by the construction, particularly if they normally use the drive that runs along the east side of the stadium, connecting parking areas 17 and 18.
From now until the project is completed in February 2002, there will be no vehicle access to the Lot 17 parking ramp from Monroe Street through Lot 18. Drivers will need to use Engineering Drive to get to the ramp. Lot 84 on the north end of the stadium will remain open during construction.
For the next several weeks, pedestrians will not be able to exit the parking ramp via its southeast stairwell. They are asked to use the elevator or an alternate stairway.
The project will upgrade about 400 feet of lines handling underground chilled water, water, steam, air, power, communications and storm water in preparation for the stadium renovation.
The project also includes a 3,000-square-foot underground electrical vault at the intersection of the stadium, the McClain Center and the southeast corner of the Lot 17 ramp. Pedestrians and bicyclists will be unable to travel through that area during construction. They are being encouraged to use other routes, namely Monroe Street and Randall Avenue or Breese Terrace and Old University Avenue.
