Conference to Focus on Distance Education

The 13th Annual Conference on Distance Teaching and Learning will be held Aug. 6-8 at the Holiday Inn West in Madison, drawing 1,000 people from around the country. The conference is offered each year by the University of Wisconsin–Madison in cooperation with the UW-Extension.

The program features more than 150 speakers discussing how organizations, instructors and learners are responding to the challenges of rapid growth in computer and video networks. Included will be three experts from UW–Madison:

• Chere Campbell Gibson, chair of the Department of Continuing and Vocational Education: “Orientation to distance education and training,” Wednesday, Aug. 6, 8:30-11:30 a.m.
• Sharon Nellis, Collaborative Nursing Program: “Helping students through the hoops: Advising in a distance education program,” Thursday, Aug. 7, 10:30-11:15 a.m.
• Michael Pitterle and Connie Kraus, School of Pharmacy: “Use of distance learning technology in linking academic and community-based learning environments,” Thursday, Aug. 7, 1:30-2:15 p.m.
