College Library holds pumpkin contest
UW–Madison College Library staff members are offering a $60 reward for guessing the weight of a massive pumpkin.
Security Officer J.D. Rosandick grew the pumpkin at his home in northwestern Dane County. The giant is on display in front of the reference and information desk at the College Library entrance.
Library Services Assistant Bruce Broker said entries will be accepted until midnight on Oct. 31. He says only students can guess, calling the contest a “Great Pumpkin Scholarship.” The prize money was donated by College Library staff.
He said about 17 people have submitted entries so far, and they’ve been “way off.” Students aren’t allowed to handle the pumpkin. “Not many people would be able to pick it up anyway,” Broker says.
Rosandick didn’t put any “special care” into growing the pumpkin, Broker says. After the contest, Rosandick will keep the orange monster.
