‘Cinefest Nuestra’ spotlights Latino cinema Nov. 16-19

Recent Central American, Chicano/a and Latino/a films will be showcased in Madison Nov.16-19, in the 2nd Annual Madison CineFest Nuestra, “Sin Fronteras: Films from Greater Mexico.”

Festival highlights include the opening night presentation of the acclaimed Mexican film “Bajo California,” with a special appearance by its award-winning star Damián Alcázar.

Also featured are:

  • “Indigenous Always: The Legend of La Malinche and the Conquest of Mexico,” recently nominated for 5 Midwest Emmy Awards, with special appearance by Wisconsin filmmaker Dan Banda.
  • “Ernesto ‘Che’ Guevara: The Bolivian Diary,” a portrait of the revolutionary leader based on his personal diary; and a number of films by Chicana and Latina (women) filmmakers.
  • A one-day film conference and lecture by renowned Mexican film critic Carlos Bonfil round out the CineFest programs.

Seating limited and on a first-come basis for the free film and speaker programs.
