Chancellor seeks more input on campus climate
Chancellor John Wiley is asking students, faculty and staff to continue providing valuable input on campus climate in the wake of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
The first of three listening sessions on the topic, conducted Oct. 16 by the chancellor and Dean of Students Alicia Chavez, was attended by about 45 members of the campus community.
Most speakers suggested that the university take a more vocal stand against racism and encourage instructors to be more sensitive to the needs of students following the attacks.
“The discussion was very productive. and I hope the next two listening sessions will provide more valuable input,” Wiley says. “I would also like to remind members of the campus community that the best way to combat racism is to make sure it gets reported to the proper authorities.”
Additional listening sessions are scheduled Wednesday, Oct. 24, 5 p.m., Union South, 227 N. Randall Ave. (Check “Today in the Union” for exact location) and Thursday, Oct. 25, 4:30 p.m., Linne Lounge in Witte Residence Hall, 615 W. Johnson St.
