Additional revenues predicted
The Legislative Fiscal Bureau projects an additional $364.1 million in tax revenue will be available at the end of the 1999-2001 biennium. The projection is the net result of increased estimated tax collections of $417.2 million, a decrease of $25.5 million in departmental revenues and an estimated increase of net spending of $27.6 million.

Regents confirmed
The Senate has confirmed the appointments of Roger Axtell (32-1) and Gregory Gracz (26-7) to the UW Board of Regents. They also passed a measure commending Ron Dayne on winning the Heisman Trophy and an outstanding season.

College savings plan advances
Senator Richard Grobschmidt, D-South Milwaukee, has introduced legislation (SB 329) that would make changes to the current college savings program, EdVest, and create a new program. SB 329 is a companion bill to AB 654, which is before the full Assembly Wednesday, Feb. 2. SB 329 has been referred to the Senate Education Committee.
